Google is planning to release a new social networking feature for Gmail that will show users a feed of status updates from their contacts. The feature will resemble Facebook's news feed and will add a window to Gmail that displays a rolling count of the away messages and current status updates users enter in Gchat.Eventually, Google is hoping to include photos uploaded to Picasaweb accounts and uploaded or favorited videos on YouTube. It is not clear if these features will be included in the first rollout of the social networking service, reports the Wall Street Journal. However, the new feature may roll out as early as this week!
